All about Tazarotene
Tazarotene for Many Skin Conditions
Tazarotene is an anti-acne drug that comes with quite a few strings attached. This is because it is a strong drug that involves many precautions. It could also cause many side effects.
Retinoid Drug
This drug is a retinoid, which means it is derived from vitamin-A and is effective for the treatment of various skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and photodamage.
Tazarotene is sold over the counter and is available in the form of a gel or cream. Available in two strengths, one application at night is sufficient. Make sure you cleanse and dry the affected area before applying the cream. It is important that the skin is completely dry before the cream is applied.
Careful not to use more than recommended and make sure you apply the gel or cream only to the target area. Never let the drug anywhere near sensitive skin near the mouth, lips and eyes.
Careful Application
If the cream accidentally makes contact with the eyes, wash the eyes thoroughly to remove any trace of it. This is also why you must wash your hands after applying the cream or gel.
Improvement is gradual. If used to ease psoriasis, expect improvement only after about two to three weeks after treatment begins, Used along with topical corticosteroids, tazarotene is pretty effective in the treatment of Psoriasis. It spreads the rash tat occurs and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
If it’s acne you’re treating, you need regular applications for as many as four months. It reduces the blackheads and inflamed acne skin. It also prevents new lesions from appearing.
Tzarotene and Photodamage
In cases of photodamage, tazarotene eases mild wrinkles, improves skin tone (hyperpigmentation), reduces brown spots (lentigenes), improves elasticity of the skin (elastosis), and pore size.
Tazarotene has been observed to be effective when used along with other topical applications and even microdermabrasion
Side-Effects of Tazarotene
Tazarotene could cause itching, stinging, redness, swelling, or dryness of the skin. If the original condition worsens, if you break out in a rash, if there’s skin cracking, or discoloration or bleeding of the skin, bring it to your doctor’s attention immediately.
Pregnant women should not use any product containing tazarotene.
Provide your doctor with a comprehensive medical history. Also note if you suffer from any kind of allergic reaction to skin condition such as eczema or sunburn. That is because tazarotene heightens sensitivity to the sun.
